Nat Turner’s rebellion is the most important thing to happen in chapter 12 because slavery is bad and Nat Turner set out to try to end it. Nat Turner Believed that God told him to end slavery, so he led a revolt in 1831 that killed about 60 white people and many of them were slaveholders (Deverell + White 390-391). This means that the slaves were willing to go to extremes in order to earn justice. This is important because the slaves proved to the white people that they are not just things that can be sold and traded; they are humans too. Nat Turner’s Rebellion also affected United States history because it “raised southern fears of a general slave uprising and had a profound effect on the attitude of Southerners towards slavery” (Alchin). This means that it was the first step to people realizing that slavery is wrong and needs to be ended. This is important because the slaveholders got scared and might release their slaves in fear of another revolt. Nat Turner’s Rebellion was a very important event because it was the first step to ending slavery.
